Agnostic VS Judeo Christian View on Virtue

* Editor:  The agnostic point of view quote below is attributed to Caesar Marcus Aurelius. There is some truth to the line about living virtuously just because you're aware that's how you should live and not Because you worship God. In other words if you live virtuously solely because you believe in the Judeo-Christian God, that reveals a lack of purity in your belief and behavior. You're only being a good person because of God not because you recognize how important it is to simply be a good person period. That's the point the speaker is making in that quote.

Whereas, the Judeo-Christian point of view is that yes, you should be a good person because that's the way you should behave without doubt. But,while being a good virtuous person you should eventually be motivated to seek truth and in seeking truth, the truth will be shown to you. Once the truth is revealed to you-you do one of two things. You either reject it or accept it-you'll never be the same again because you know the truth. The destination of your soul depends on how you react to truth being revealed to you.

“Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.” - Emperor Marcus Aurelius. 121-180AD.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. - Philippians 4:8
